{"id":4758,"date":"2012-05-20T21:12:54","date_gmt":"2012-05-21T04:12:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.emilymorganti.com\/blog\/?p=4758"},"modified":"2014-03-07T08:40:59","modified_gmt":"2014-03-07T16:40:59","slug":"hillside-victorian-deck-part-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.emilymorganti.com\/blog\/?p=4758","title":{"rendered":"Hillside Victorian deck (part 3)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The last time I worked on the <a href=\"\/blog\/?p=4696\" target=\"new\">Hillside Victorian&#8217;s deck<\/a>, I wasn&#8217;t sure about the color I&#8217;d painted it. I also didn&#8217;t like how the flagstones ended abruptly at the stairs. I decided to continue the flagstones onto the stairway (like in the <a href=\"\/dollhouse\/hillside-victorian\/fieldstone-deck-inspiration.jpg\" target=\"new\">inspiration photo<\/a> I found online) and to paint the deck another color. I picked out a few of the shades that I&#8217;d been using in the flagstones and put swatches up against the house to see what looked best.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/dollhouse\/hillside-victorian\/hillside-deck39.jpg\" style=\"margin-top:15px; margin-bottom:15px\"><\/p>\n<p>The colors are a bit off in this picture, but the one in the middle is a greenish gray Glidden paint named Olivewood. Of the three, I thought it looked best against the blue of the house while also contrasting with the mostly gray\/brown of the stones.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/dollhouse\/hillside-victorian\/hillside-deck40.jpg\" style=\"margin-top:15px; margin-bottom:15px\"><br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nAfter the porch paint dried, I added egg carton stones to the side of the stairs.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/dollhouse\/hillside-victorian\/hillside-deck41.jpg\" style=\"margin-top:15px; margin-bottom:15px\"><\/p>\n<p>And then to the risers.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/dollhouse\/hillside-victorian\/hillside-deck43.jpg\" style=\"margin-top:15px; margin-bottom:15px\"><\/p>\n<p>And here they are after adding paint and matte varnish. (Didn&#8217;t bother to take pictures of those steps yet again! If you haven&#8217;t been following this and want to see how it was done, <a href=\"\/blog\/?p=4589\" target=\"new\">look here<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/dollhouse\/hillside-victorian\/hillside-deck44.jpg\" style=\"margin-top:15px; margin-bottom:15px\"><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m glad I went to the trouble, I think this looks much better.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/dollhouse\/hillside-victorian\/hillside-deck45.jpg\" style=\"margin-top:15px; margin-bottom:15px\"><\/p>\n<p>I still need to build the step to go under the French doors, and add a railing.
