This half scale log cabin is my interpretation of the one in Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House in the Big Woods . The kit is a “Sugar and Spice” log cabin kit that I bought off eBay. The dolls were made to order by Prairie Crocus Studio on Etsy. Read about the Little House Cabin dollhouse on my blog .
Little House Cabin
This picture came with the cabin kit. It's "Sugar and Spice" brand, and I bought it off eBay.
Little House Cabin
Replica of the cabin where Laura Ingalls Wilder was born. This is the house I wanted to replicate.
Little House Cabin
My finished cabin.
Little House Cabin
I used vertical skinny sticks at the top instead of logs, like the real house in Pepin.
Little House Cabin
The base is an extra large "basswood round" from Joann's. I added a turntable underneath so it rotates. The trees are dollar store Christmas decorations.

The "half round" logs have flat backs to glue on to the house. I added tiny pieces to the ends so they look round.
Little House Cabin
In Little House in the Big Woods there's a story about a pig being chased by a bear, which I've recreated here (the Cliff's Notes version, anyway). The Big Woods are a dangerous place!

Little House Cabin
The downstairs room. The table is set with Ma's famous red checkered tablecloth, and the China Shepherdess is on the shelf Pa carved for Christmas. Pa's gun hangs over the door like in the illustration.
Little House Cabin
Close-up of the China Shepherdess. She's just over 1/2 inch tall.
Little House Cabin
This illustration is from Little House on the Prairie. Little House in the Big Woods doesn't have a good fireplace picture, so I used this for reference while furnishing my cabin.
Little House Cabin
The upstairs room. I added skinny sticks, logs, and hardwood flooring strips to the inside walls. All the wood was stained with Minxwax Ebony first, then stained over with a gray water-based stain.

Laura's doll Charlotte and Pa's fiddle are on the trunk by the bed.

I made the Shaker-style beds from a set of plans, and cross stitched the quilts.
Baby Carrie
Baby Carrie moved in a few months after the rest of the family. I didn't even know Ma was pregnant!
